It’s another sunny Friday here at Reggie’s Motorworks, and we love it!

Be sure to keep an eye on our Cars For Sale page to see what’s available!

Well, our “pending sale” on this e28 fell through this week, so it is still available! This is a 106K car with an amazing red leather interior and crack free dash. It just needs to be gone through mechanically as it has been sitting for 8 or so years.   Click here to see more photos of this e28 bimmer. We bought it as a parts car, but like a couple others we’ve had over the years, its just too nice to tear apart. We really want to see it go to a good home.

You can check it out HERE on eBay. The opening bid is only $900, so bid to win! If you have any questions, please give us a call.

We’re parting out a rusty 1984 325e with automatic transmission in saphirblau-metallic.  Click here to see the full gallery of photos.

Actually, the pearl beige sport seats are in pretty good condition.  One seam needs to be restitched, then a little Leatherique treatment, and they would look great!  Click here to see more detailed photos of these seats.  If you are interested in them, buy them now at a super deal. In the next week or so we’ll fix the bolster and leatherique them, but of course the price will go up!!

The engine was just hoisted out this morning by Reggie.

Reggie’s has also been working on an e36 with some knocking and idling issues. It turns out one of the spark plugs came loose (knocking), and somehow the tip got broken off (idling issues)! Oops…Remember to torque your spark plugs properly:

We hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend! It looks like we’re going to get a taste of spring here in the Midwest! We can’t wait to see 55 degrees!

We would like to thank everyone that came to the Winter Clearance Sale!  It was great to spend some time with fellow enthusiasts!

It’s been a busy week here at Reggie’s Motorworks.  Here are a few of the projects that we’ve done this week:

  • We’ve installed a driveshaft and refurbished a serpentine belt system on an e32 740i.
  • We flushed the brake fluid and mounted and balanced tires on a Mercedes 300e.
  • The red convertible came back in for rear differential seals and service and transmission flush and mounts. (And the trunk light addition which you’ll read about below.)
  • A 1984 533i gets a new clutch.

Here Reggie is wrapping up some work on the 1984 533i.  Rumor has it that it used to belong to a famous rock star who hails from the state of Indiana, none other than John Mellencamp.

Another project has been to add a second trunk light for the owner of the nice red cabrio we worked on recently.  Most US spec e30’s come with one trunk light, but two holes where trunk lights can be mounted.

Reggie eyeballs the length of the additional wire that needs to be added.

Reggie solders the new wire into the positive lead for the original trunk light.

This is the new trunk light with the ground wire attached.

Next, he splices the two ground wires together.

A quick dip in flux assures a solid solder joint.

Rosin Flux is available at local electronic stores, ours happens to be from Radio Shack.

Note: The heat shrink tube was installed before soldering the joint together. (Reggie forgets this from time to time.)

Soldering the ground wire splice.

The finished splice before the heat shrink tubing is installed.

Heating up the heat shrink tubing for a perfectly snug fit around the wiring.

Reggie guides the wiring through the various holes in the trunk to the light on the right.

Reggie installs a crimp connector the the ground wire for the new light.

Next, he screws the light switch in place. The way this circuit works, is that the switch creates a ground when the trunk is in the open position. You will notice that once the screw is in place, the lights come on.  (If the battery is connected…which it probably should not be while doing this work.)

Have a fun and safe weekend!

Well, here you go!

Okay, so it’s an M5 parts car literally “over” our little ‘69 ‘02. I just set them that way while we were moving things around, and couldn’t help but come up with a dumb joke:).

Well, this week was kind of “business as usual”. We didn’t have any huge highlights in any of our projects, but we did have the opportunity to work on some nice cars, and sell some parts!

The M5 is still running great, and has been posted for sale in e30tech.com in the classified section. I posted it there first because we sponsor that site, and wanted to give the e30 community the first shot at that drive train if someone were wanting to build a MONSTER project.

One of our great friends/customers (Jim) stopped by, and has an interest in putting that M5 running gear in an early  Datsun 240z! We feel that would be a great project, and have agreed to discuss it further in the coming weeks/months (if no one beats him to it!).

What do you think? I think this car would be fun with a 315 HP BMW engine in it, don’t you?(bootleg photo from Google images:))

Now the 240z is just one idea, and so far the engine is not sold so it could still be yours. If you have your own idea of what you want to do with an M5 engine……or want to commission us to inject some German muscle into your project car, just drop us a line.  Anything is possible…..as long as you’ve got a sturdy checkbook (just kidding, it could really be HUGE bang for your buck):).

We are also hoping to bid farewell to our current “shop truck” (the green one). We bought this old Volvo wagon last spring to use as a parts hauler. It served us well for a few months/10,000 miles, but has become too needy. Granted, it has 353K miles!! We also bought the ‘83 turbo wagon next to it to grab some “optional equipment” for our wagon, but alas, there is only so much time in the day. The ‘80 wagon would be a GREAT project for someone….but we already have a project.  All is not lost for us in the Volvo department though, as there is a trade pending! A Volvo enthusiast has an interest in these two wagons, and has offered to trade one 1991 240 wagon for the pair you see here. This should give us a dependable “plain jane” wagon, while he gets the more characteristic older wagons.

Well, we hope you have a safe and happy holiday (if we don’t get a chance to blog before then)!

Happy Friday!  We’ve had another busy week here at Reggie’s Motorworks.  We’ve got some new parts cars to show you…the M5 and the 320is.  Reggie also worked on a 1987 325i convertible…more on that later, please keep reading!

Let’s start with this poor ol’ ‘91 M5…she’s seen better days, that is for certain!  We’re hoping to turn her around though…

_dsc7406 _dsc7409

As you can see, she’s saved quite a few souvenirs from fall…so many leaves were packed around the engine!

_dsc7411 _dsc7414

First thing to do is get rid of all of those leaves, and whatever else might be lurking inside. She’s been sitting for the past 8 or 9 years, so maybe we ought to cut her some slack.

_dsc7415

The passenger side is not so hot either.  Scratches and dents, it ain’t pretty, folks!

_dsc7419 _dsc7448

An ugly patch of rust on the passenger side by the trunk.  How did that happen?!

_dsc7447 _dsc7427

Still looks mean from the front though!

_dsc7441 _dsc7423

Despite the cracked windshield, the interior is very nice.  The black leather seats are beautiful!  And quite comfortable!

_dsc7436 _dsc7437

All the leaves have been removed, and the nasty oil has been drained.  Now it’s looking a little bit better…

With a delicate hand, the rusty throttle body linkage was loosened, old spark plugs were pulled, and the mighty engine was turned over by hand.  The good news is that the engine was not stuck.

***As of publication time, the starter is firing!!!***

Here’s a look at Reggie’s trip to Cincinnati a few weeks ago when he picked up the ‘83 320is.  It was a beautiful fall day for a drive to pick up an ol’ Bimmer.  Parts from this one will go to the ‘69 2002…and we’ll have some parts leftover for your Bimmer as well!

The truck and trailer were eager to get something cool to haul around.  Too bad the tractor didn’t come with this car!  Oh well, we wouldn’t have room for it here at the shop.

A look at the interior…Recaro seats!!!

dsc_1201 dsc_1202 dsc_1221

The gentleman selling this car also had a few other Bimmers on his property.

dsc_1203 dsc_1204

This interior is a great candidate for some Leatherique… and some good old fashioned TLC wouldn’t hurt either.

dsc_1208 dsc_1212

dsc_1215 dsc_1217

Alas, it was time to load up the trailer and head home.

You may be wondering about the last part of the title of this post, and how it could possibly fit in with BMW’s, e30’s, or cars in general.  Well, it was a stretch, but, hey, it got you asking questions, right?? At the beginning of this post, I mentioned that Reggie worked on a very nice 1987 325i convertible for a great customer of ours.  He’d been having some performance issues with his car, and brought it by the shop during our Black Friday Sale last week and had Reggie take a look.  Here’s what he found:

_dsc7356

The guibo was in sad shape, to say the least. And that’s what not to wear!  Although, it will make for some cool art to have around the shop.

_dsc7523 _dsc7499 _dsc7502 _dsc7473

Have a great weekend!  Reggie plans to work on the 2002 again tomorrow, so we’ll keep you posted!

Don’t forget about these great machines we have for sale!  The keys to either one of these would make perfect stocking stuffers for the BMW enthusiast on your shopping list!  :)   Please call or email for an appointment.

Welcome back to another blog post from Reggie’s Motorworks!  This week, we welcomed our newest member of the team, Andrew.  We’re excited to have you join us!  Our other team member, Jordan, started back to school for the year and is on the tennis team.  Jordan, we wish you a great school year, thanks so much for all of your hard work here at Reggie’s Motorworks!

As you’ve seen, we’ve been dismantling the 1973 BMW 2002.  We’ve made more progress, and she’s about ready to roll ….or get dragged on out of here.   Check out our new mid-rise lift in the photo below.

Ready to roll

A few weekends ago, we went out to support our friend, Sean, at Putnam Park as he participated in the Windy City BMW driving school.  Despite dark clouds overhead, the event didn’t see a drop of rain, and we got to see some cool cars.  Reggie and I were determined to get some sweet panning shots to share with you.  Here are some favorites, and you may click here to view a full gallery.  And, yes, we were addicted to panning shots

Ready to hit the track!

Fast!

Go, 2002, go!

We’re heading up to Auburn this weekend, so we’ll be sure to get photos of some cool cars.  Enjoy a safe, fun-filled holiday weekend!

And don’t forget about the rare collector car that we have for sale!
