Less Rust, More Metal!

Happy Friday!  It’s been another crazy week!  Busy and hot!  Plus, we have had quite a bit of rain too!  It is a little cooler out today, which I think everyone is loving right now!  And because of the weather the past few days, tonight’s Cruise-In is weather-permitting.

Just like the past few weeks, I’ve been in and out of the shop here and there to catch a glimpse of what the guys have been up to.

This 2008 BMW 528xi was in to remount a fallen rear view mirror and to diagnose a check engine light:

And now for some updates to the rust repairs on the 1987 BMW 535is!

The patch has been welded into place on the driver’s side floor, with the inside view on the left and exterior view on the right:

The passenger side is on deck!

A patch panel for the passenger side rocker is in position:

We’re pleased to announce that we can now make metal confetti!  Ok, ok, really we’re not going to start making metal confetti, but if we wanted to do, this handy new tool would do the job!   This flange punch tool allowing perfect access for spot welds!  This same tool also makes flanges.

Speaking of tools, sometimes Reggie makes his own to accomplish his goal.  In this case, he needed to make the piece that’s in the background of this photo (and seen in the photo below).  Worked like a charm!

Shaping metal is truly an art form that takes time and patience:

The newly fashioned patches are welded into place on the driver’s side:

The same process was repeated for the passenger side, and here you can see that the seam sealer has been applied:

It’s been a long week, and I’ve got a super busy afternoon ahead so I’d better sign off for now!   We hope the weather holds for a Cruise-In tonight!  We hope to see you here!

Have a great weekend!
