Spring Break: 2002 + e30 Style

 
Before we get to this week’s updates, we would like to wish farewell and best wishes to Brandon.  He’s been a great asset to the Reggie’s Motorworks team since joining us last summer, and we wish him all the best as he starts on a new journey with Bentley!  Thanks for all of your hard work, Brandon!  You will be missed!

It’s been a week of sunshine and rain…lots and lots of rain!  Speaking of rain, we had both rain and snow last weekend for the Swap Meet, but that didn’t keep us from having a great time!  Despite the weather, we had a fantastic turn out!  We would like to thank everyone who attended – thank you for braving the elements!  And a big thank you to Hoosier BMW for partnering with us and for sponsoring lunch!  Sean grilled burgers and hotdogs for everyone outside under a tent!  Now that’s dedication!  Thanks, Sean!  Another big shout out goes to DeFouw BMW for donating awesome door prizes! In the shop this week was the 1968 BMW 2002 for her front suspension rebuild, exhaust center section replacement, rear brake conversion, and driveline fluids check.   A Spring Break providing rejuvenation for this vintage beauty!

The drain plug was found to be clogged in the lower spring perch, trapping water, and allowing rust to take over:

Bye bye, rust!  After a little more cleaning up, those lower spring perches were rust free!

Finally, Reggie treated them with a coat of POR 15, a rust inhibiting paint:

Brake calipers were painted with brake caliper paint:

And the lower steering arms waited for their own coat of paint too:

Next to the ’02 was a 1989 BMW 325i in alpinweiss II.  She came in for a timing belt job with oil seals, a water pump and thermostat, and new fan blade.

When the water pump failed, the fan blades began hitting the radiator, breaking three of them right off.  Fortunately, the radiator appeared to have escaped unscathed!
