Road & Track Ready e30 + RTAB video!

Happy March!  We’re back for another edition of the blog!  The shop has been busy this week, so let’s jump right in with the latest happenings!
 

Reggie has had a blast documenting various projects with the GoPro Hero 3!  Here is a video we filmed last week, showing the process of welding in rear trailing arm bushing (RTAB) reinforcement plates in an e36. The video does not cover this step, but WE REMOVED THE FUEL TANK prior to welding to prevent any potential danger.

A rough running issue brought this 1998 arkissilber metallic 323i to the shop.  She got a new fuel injector and fuel injector seal.

This titan silver 2008 BMW 335i was in need of a new blower motor:

We have been loving our new tire equipment!   Besides the fact that we are able to simulate the weight of the car on the road to achieve proper balance and yield the best performance, they allow us to be even more efficient while doing the job.  For example, this 2006 BMW 530xi was in need of new front tires (including valve stems) and balancing of all 4 tires.

The Hunter machine inflates the tire to the correct psi automatically, allowing us to keep working during the process.  The machine beeps to alert the technician that the proper tire pressure has been achieved.  Let’s take a look!

John removes any corrosion along the wheel’s edge to ensure that the tire seals properly to the wheel:

Meanwhile, the screen confirms that the tire is correctly inflated:

Then it’s time to Road Force balance the tire.  The screen indicates where and how much weight to add to the wheel.  Once properly balanced, the screen shows all zeroes, and that tire is ready for the road!   Precision, performance, and efficiency…yes, please!

You may recognize this 1991 BMW 325i.  She’s been getting work done over time ever since her owner found her – his dream bimmer! – online several months ago.  She has really come a long way!  Check out some of her previous work here, here, here, here, here, and here.  A leaking head gasket brought her in to the shop.  The cause?  Just a little, ok – a lot! – of carbon buildup was found:

If you follow us on Facebook, you may have seen the Miller W.A.R. chip ready to be installed in Whitey the Track Rat, the ’87 325is. This will go along with their ProStreet intake/MAF conversion to gain somewhere around 25 hp and 25 lb-ft. Summer fun is around the corner!

The switch, aka tune selector, has been installed. Reggie asked me if I knew why he installed it where he did. I thought about it for a few seconds, and didn’t have an answer…

Reggie will be fabricating an aluminum cover to protect the new air filter. On a side note, the far left opening (below the one which has the brake ducting) in the air dam will feed cool air to the air filter.
